### the-straights-come-marching *originally posted:* apr 2026 they say if you have to explain the joke you kill it, but some jokes are better off dead than unexplained. i wont explain this one: some of my best friends are straight people. no, literally, my best friend is straight. i would like more gay friends, but theres nowhere to Find Them. i mean gay people are easy enough to find, or maybe theyre not- because gay friends are a lot less easy to find. and a lot of that is because gay people are at war, or rather the world is at war with us, and during a war everyone is a lot more careful about who their friends are. all of which is to say that un-queering the world has very real, very deliberate, very non-theoretical consequences, which a lot of people know and fewer will admit, which theres still enough sound theory about to accurately predict these very non-theoretical consequences. this is not a song about hating straight people. this is a song about how fundamentally unfair "straight culture" is. its unfair to gay people. its unfair to other minorities. its unfair to all women, whether trans or cis or white or black or christian or atheist or "citizen" or "immigrant". because transphobia is rooted in homophobia and misogyny, and homophobia is rooted in misogyny. because you Really cant fight queerness without letting the nazis in, and they hate All of you- more than all the angry queers on earth ever will. this is a dumb little song about how fucked up "straight culture" is for EVERYBODY. because at the end of the day, straight culture is really just theocracy with vaseline on the camera lens. but i like straight people :P just not enough for them to have the inevitable monopoly. i mean why cant you just be hetero instead? dont you know, if the whole world was queer no one could tell you Weren't Bi just by looking? and you could tell them if you wanted, only no one would care because- it just wouldnt be a problem! a couple of times a week some gay arsehole you dont even know would tell you to "make up your mind already" and youd tell them "i already did!" and you could be besties. but sooner or later youd get bored with them on account of nice gay people and also bisexuals are way cooler than that idiot. so please enjoy my stupid little song. its not about you, its not Really about your sexuality (or anyone elses), its about what monopoly does when unleashed on culture. and why heterosexuals would have MUCH more fun if straightness wasnt sort of kind of always just a little bit mandatory. that is of course, except in the hundreds of countries where being gay can still get you murdered! cause, good job making THAT "all-inclusive". finally, i admit that i have "mixed feelings" about "queer as in free palestine"- i mean, first and foremost: YES! but i can relate to every single misgiving about bringing political opinions under the queer umbrella (i realise im probably being overly literal to start with, you know) except being against genocide Does kind of seem not only fundamentally queer (as in antifascist) but also fundamentally necessary for queer people to exist- so like i said, mixed feelings? a relevant mini-history-lesson: the word genocide was coined in response to the shoah, which targeted first and foremost jewish people, also roma and political dissidents and other "racial minorities" and not in the least at all, queer people of various colours of the rainbow. so i would say that queer people on average have been against genocide since at least as far back as hitler was rounding us up, cheers. also super-right-wing people that try (because, this is a thing) to keep symbols of gay resistance geographically far from holocaust memorials are awful, awful people. just saying. for the record, i patronise "all-inclusive" bars, i just think that phrase roughly translates to "we arent really excluding the people we are excluding". "all-welcoming" is a euphemism meaning "safe for gays and probably queers" and its better at least. i feel confident in saying that "all-welcoming" means less and less as the world gets un-queered, but id love for it to instead to be a true beacon of queerness in a boring, hhhwhite-defined world. but thats also why even queer towns need queer bars. sometimes i think straight people need queer bars even more than we do. in fact in the name of being all-inclusive, i think once we rebuild queer bars for queer people, we should build some queer bars for the straights as well. i suppose the song is mostly irrelevant now, as its not only been explained but overshadowed by something quickly approaching a brief essay. fuck it, thats how it goes sometimes. the straights come marching one by one, hurrah. hurrah. the straights come marching one by one, hurrah. hurrah. the straights come marching one by one, they still let us have most of our fun and they all have rights, we just waited more for ours the straights come marching two by two, hooray. hooray. the straights come marching two by two, hooray. hooray. the straights come marching two by two they wonder aloud about my shoes and they all have rights, like everyone else should have the straights come marching three by three, yippee. yippee. the straights come marching three by three, yippee. yippee. the straights come marching three by three hand in hand with the patriarchy and i wish they all were, only just hetero the straights come marching four by four, huzzah. huzzah. the straights come marching four by four, huzzah. huzzah. the straights come marching four by four we havent got gay bars anymore but its all inclusive, more inclusive for them the straights come marching five by five, oh dear, oh dear, the straights come marching five by five, oh dear, oh dear, the straights come marching line by line they wont let us stay, but hey, theyre fine but they arent just straight, they came to un-queer the world license: 0-clause bsd ``` # 2018, 2019, 2020, 2021, 2022, 2023, 2024, 2025, 2026 # # Permission to use, copy, modify, and/or distribute this software for any # purpose with or without fee is hereby granted. # # THE SOFTWARE IS PROVIDED "AS IS" AND THE AUTHOR DISCLAIMS ALL WARRANTIES # WITH REGARD TO THIS SOFTWARE INCLUDING ALL IMPLIED WARRANTIES OF # MERCHANTABILITY AND FITNESS.
